He lived in Okeene his entire life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Okeene. Chick graduated from Okeene High School in 1943. After graduation he joined the US Navy where he served on his ship, the USS Salamaua, an escort carrier in World War II After returning home, he married Gene Laubach.
