Mary Beatrice Schenk

Mary Beatrice Schenk September 28th, 1941-February 15th, 2019 Mary Beatrice Schenk was born in Watonga, OK on September 28,1941 to Harold and Maxine (Tiny) Winters and passed away February 15, 2019 at the age of 77. She was a resident of the Watonga community for over 45 years where she was a Nurse Practitioner at Watonga Family Care. She attended Hitchcock school and graduated from Okeene in 1959. On August 4th, 1962, she married Kelly Hobart Schenk in the Okeene Methodist Church. Mary Bea received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma in 1963 and earned her Masters of Nursing as well as a Family Nurse Practitioner certification in 1973, becoming one of the first nurse practitioners in the state of Oklahoma. Mary began teaching in 1978 at the SWOSU School of Nursing and was an inspiration to hundreds of future nurses. She joined Doctor Curtis Schenk at the Watonga Family Care in 1996, where she provided healthcare to many families in the Watonga community for over 20 years. Mary Bea’s servant’s heart was evident by her many years as an active member on several community and professional boards including Watonga School Board, Watonga Hospital Board and Oklahoma Board of Nursing. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Watonga teaching Sunday school, Youth group, Bible School and Christmas programs. One of her greatest joys in life was teaching children about Christ and the importance of a servant’s heart. Mary Bea was passionate about her family and spent countless hours traveling to ball games and events. Her favorite places at home were the yard and the kitchen. Known as “Omie” to her grandchildren and many others, she continues to leave a legacy of love for others, passion for family, and service to community. Mary Bea is preceded in death by her parents Harold Fred Winters and Maxine (Tiny) Margaret Winters of Hitchcock. She is survived by husband, Kelly Schenk of the home in Watonga, son Thad and Bobbi Schenk of Watonga, son Travis and Alicia Schenk of Edmond, Oklahoma, daughter Maryl and Dr. Justin McCrary of Watonga. Grandchildren Bradi Schenk Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Riley Schenk, Marin McCrary and Wade McCrary of Watonga, Oklahoma, Abby Schenk and Trevor Schenk, Edmond, Oklahoma as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral Services for Mary Beatrice Schenk will be held, Monday, February 18th 2019, at 3:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Watonga, Oklahoma with Reverend Carle King and Associate Pastor Christy Germany officiating. Burial will follow in the Cottonwood Cemetery at Hitchcock, Oklahoma with Wilkinson Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
