In Memory of Patricia June DeSpain

Patricia June Boston DeSpain was born on May 30, 1938 in Watonga, Oklahoma to George and Elsie Boston and passed away on February 11, 2020 surrounded by family. She was a resident of Watonga almost her entire life until she moved to Yukon in July 2019 to be closer to family. Pat attended high school in Watonga where she excelled in athletics, particularly basketball. She is remembered for her skills even today. After high school graduation Pat attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford before marrying Melvin DeSpain from Hinton, Oklahoma.

Pat held many jobs during her lifetime but her most treasured was when she ran for and was elected to the Office of City Clerk in 1983. She served 6 four-year terms in that position before retiring in 2007. This career allowed her the opportunity to work with and assist the citizens of Watonga, the town she loved so dearly. During her tenure with the City she was an active member of the Oklahoma Municipal League. Pat was also an active member of the First Baptist Church since 1948 and loved serving in the kitchen.

Pat was an avid sports fan and loved watching her grandchildren play sports throughout the state and travelling the country. She rarely missed a game. Pat was a fierce competitor herself and excelled in any sport she undertook as she dedicated her time to perfecting its skill. She was involved in several bridge clubs, one of which started in 1963. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends and never met a stranger. No matter where Pat travelled, she always saw someone who knew her. Although she lived at Spanish Cove Retirement Community a short time, she made some of the best friends and was loved by so many.

Pat’s greatest joy was spending time with her kids, grandkids and her relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Elsie Boston, and her two brothers Darrel Boston and Larry Boston. She is survived by her daughter Kim and husband Randy of Yukon; son Greg of Tulsa; and sister Shirley Shipman of Thomas. Her grandchildren include Jennifer Dyer of Castle Rock, CO; Lance DeSpain and wife Jessica of Moore, Ashleigh Fields and husband Josh of Edmond, and Kasey Rhodes and husband Tyler of Edmond. Pat’s great-grandchildren include Cooper, Chloe and Camden Dyer; Kaden, Jackson and Karleigh Fields; Tucker, Greyson and Olivia DeSpain. Remy Leigh Rhodes was born the day after Pat’s death and although they never met Remy will know her Grandma Pat from the love and stories we will share. Pat is survived by nieces and nephews and numerous relatives and friends.

Funeral Services for Pat will be held on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Watonga, Oklahoma with Reverend Jim Westmoreland officiating. There will be a private family burial following the service with Wilkinson Mortuary in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Watonga First Baptist Church General Building Fund.
