Lavona Charlotte (Cline) Harding was born September 8, 1937, at Fay, Oklahoma, to Lesi Harold Cline and Arvilla Lorene (Baker) Cline, and passed away on August 26, 2026, in her home in Watonga, at the age of 88.
Lavona grew up on the farm and graduated from Oakwood High School. After graduating, she attended Draughon’s School of Business. Lavona was very musically talented; she enjoyed square dance, and she was self-taught to play piano, accordion, and the guitar. At one point, she played the base fiddle for the Cliff & Smiley Band.
Lavona worked for Standard Life Insurance in Oklahoma City for 5 years before transferring to their location in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she worked for 14 years. She also worked part time at the University of Nebraska for 10 years. She met Daniel E. Harding while she was working as an insurance adjuster for Standard Life Insurance and the two later moved to Clay Center, Kansas. They were married on June 10, 1965, in Ottawa, Kansas.
In October of 2021, Lavona moved to Watonga to be closer to the family.
She is survived by
Sister…………………… Velta, and her husband, Edward Quintle, of Watonga, OK.
Brother………………… Dwane Cline of Watonga, OK.
Stepchildren………... Danette Miller of Kansas City, Missouri; Kevin Harding of Pensacola, Florida.
As well as numerous other nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services for Lavona will be held Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Watonga Christian Church, with Pastor J.C. Walker officiating and Wilkinson Mortuary of Watonga handling the arrangements.
The burial will follow at a later date at Riley Cemetery in Riley, Kansas.
