GLENNIS JANE CARTER

With hearts full of gratitude and remembrance, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Glennis Jane Carter, who left this world to be with Jesus on Sunday, August 9, at the age of 87. A woman of extraordinary beauty and kindness, she lived a life dedicated to serving others wholeheartedly and loving her family deeply.

Glennis was the beloved wife of Wayne, her husband of 69 years; a proud mother to Stephen Carter, Teresa Gorton, and Susan Rider; a loving mother-in-law to Sandra Carter, the late Jeffrey Gorton, and Fred Rider; a cherished grandmother to Scot, Colby, Megan, Samantha, Sierra, Ryan, Candy, and Riley, and their spouses; and a proud great-grandmother to Addison, Emma, Tyler, Pierce, James, Thea, Gavin, Holland, Ellisyn, Wheatley, Kenley, Hallie, and the newest addition to the family, Carter Cate.

As a young woman, Glennis married the love of her life and high school sweetheart. Together, she and Wayne left Southard, Oklahoma, and traveled the country as Wayne worked for IBM. Eventually, they returned to northwest Oklahoma with their children and settled as longtime residents of Okeene.

Throughout the years, Glennis could often be found supporting her husband and son at their local business, Carter Electric Heat and Air, or designing beautiful floral arrangements alongside Susan at Blossoms and Gifts. She was a woman of deep faith who found genuine joy in serving her community. She was a committed member of the United Methodist Church, Methodist Women, Child-Study Club, the Red Hat Ladies, various bowling leagues, and many other community groups and activities.

Glennis poured her heart into creating a welcoming and loving home. She was always ready to listen, help, and serve her family, graciously accepting requests for special meals at any time. Family favorites included her popcorn balls at Halloween, “Rags,” and her chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes, a meal that could be enjoyed year-round. Her door was always open, and guests were always offered her personal favorite refreshment, an ice-cold Dr. Pepper.

She always showed up. She showed up for her grandchildren, for extended family members in need, and for neighbors who needed a helping hand. She gave her time, her love, and her whole heart without hesitation.

Although our world feels a little dimmer without her, we carry her with us in our hearts and in the way we show up for the people we love. Glennis Jane Carter, we promise to carry on your legacy of love and remember you with every “red bird” we see.

Funeral Services for Glennis will be held Friday, August 14, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at the Methodist Church in Okeene, Oklahoma with Pastor Fred Ryder officiating.  Burial will follow in the Homestead Cemetery in Homestead, Oklahoma.  Arrangements by Wilkinson Mortuary of Okeene, Oklahoma. 

Viewing will be Thursday, August 13, from 12:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. The family will receive friends from 6-7p.m. Thursday evening at Wilkinson Mortuary.
