DOROTHY LOU PAYNE

Dorothy Lou Payne was born March 20, 1931 at Hitchcock, Oklahoma to Jacob and Mollie (Metzler) Helmer and passed away Sunday, March 31, 2019 at the age of 88.

Dorothy grew up in and around the Hitchcock and Watonga communities, graduating from Hitchcock High School in 1949. She was a lifelong resident until she moved in 2012 to Mustang, Oklahoma. Dorothy worked for 25 years as a bookkeeper for the Watonga Republican and attended the Chisolm Heights Baptist church in Mustang, Oklahoma. She was an avid quilter and loved being a supportive mother to her children.

Dorothy was married to Kenneth Payne at Watonga, Oklahoma on December 10, 1949.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth, two brothers; James Helmer and David Helmer.

Dorothy is survived by one son, Terry Payne and wife Sue of Mustang, Oklahoma, two daughters’; Cheryl and husband Rick Lee of Boone, NC, Marianne and husband Chris Crowdis of Gulf Breeze, Florida, Two sisters; Betty Poole and husband Kaye of Westminster, California, and Willa Jean Ashby and husband Ron of Okc, Ok. Eight grandchildren; Rebecca Moretz, Justin Lee, Derek Payne, Jennifer Holman, Jamie Wood, Jeremy Smith, Katt Crowdis and Jett Crowdis. Ten great grandchildren, one great great grandchild as well as numerous relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Dorothy Payne will be Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Nazarene Church in Watonga with Pastor Terry Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Watonga. Arrangements and on-line condolences at www.wilkinsonmortuary.com
