Bonnie Mabel (Matli) Cox was born on May 29, 1932, north of Watonga, on the family farm, to J.C. and Mabel Matli, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the age of 93.
She was a resident of the Watonga community for most of her life, where she was a CPA and helped to run the family farm. She attended and graduated from Watonga High School in 1949 and was Homecoming Queen, as well as being active in FHA, band, and served as the Senior Class Secretary. Bonnie played flute and piccolo for the OSU A&M marching band and graduated from Oklahoma A&M College in 1953. She married Richard T. Cox in Watonga, OK, on January 23, 1953.
After graduation, Bonnie and Richard moved to Ogden, UT, Beltsville, MD, and Spokane, WA. They moved back to Watonga in the early 1960’s to farm with family and raise three children.
Bonnie returned to college in the late 1970’s, studying at SWOSU. She was a member of the Oklahoma Accountancy Board and maintained her CPA license up until her passing. Bonnie was the business manager at All Creatures Animal Hospital in Weatherford, Oklahoma for 20 years.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; one brother, J.L. Matli; one sister, Mary Ann Matli, and her parents, J.C. and Mabel Matli.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Karen Haymaker, of Hennessey, OK, her son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Tom and Theresa Cox, of Weatherford, OK, and her daughter and son-in-law, Judee and Ron Dysart, of Tulsa, OK; 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to Mercy step-down ICU and Hospice.
Graveside services for Bonnie will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Watonga, OK, with Pastor Earl Stephenson officiating and Wilkinson Mortuary of Watonga handling the arrangements.
Viewing and visitation will be held from 4-8 P.M. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Wilkinson Mortuary in Watonga, OK.
