In Memory of Ruth Schafer

Ruth Emmert Schafer was born June 21, 1924 at Okeene, Oklahoma to Frank and Pauline (Greb) Emmert and passed away March 6, 2020 at the age of 95. She attended country schools and Okeene Public school, graduating in 1942 as class Salutatorian. Ruth worked for Long-Bell Lumber Company for over 5 years as a bookkeeper. She married Clifford Schafer on December 7, 1947 at the Zion Baptist Church in Okeene. She was a resident of the Homestead community for many years, attending the Homestead Bible Church (formerly the Homestead Methodist Church).
She and Clifford farmed wheat and raised cattle in the Homestead area for over 50 years. They bought and lived on the Mouriquand farm west of Homestead (where the town of Homestead originated). They raised three children; Gary, Marilyn, and Gayla. All three of the kids were members of the 4-H Club and Ruth was involved as an adult leader. She enjoyed baking, painting, refinishing furniture, sewing, crafting, genealogy, and doing crossword and word search puzzles. She moved to Fairview in 1998.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, son, parents, and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Earlene Schafer of Homestead, daughter, Marilyn Erickson and husband, Jeff, of Tulsa, and daughter, Gayla Kiel and husband, Rodney, of Plano, TX. Grandchildren, Craig Schafer, and wife Jennifer, of Alva, Amanda Erickson Arguelles, and husband Arthur, of Ft. Carson, Colorado, Ryan Kiel, and wife Abby, of Plano, Texas, and Erin Kiel of Dallas, Texas. Great Grandchildren, Shelby, Clayse, Bane, Chauncey, and Adley Schafer of Alva and Aliyana, Axavier, and Amilya Ruth Arguelles of Ft. Carson, Colorado, as well as other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Wilkinson Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Homestead Bible Church or the Fairview Fellowship Home.
