Harold loved his family. He attended baseball, softball, basketball and football games to watch his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews. Harold was a hardworking man Monday through Saturday, but during the summers, Sunday was lake day. He would load the kids up in the bed of the GMC pickup, load the boat and spend the day on Canton Lake, where he prided himself in “throwing” the kids off the water skis and trolling around the lake. You could also catch him fishing at Hart Pond or Chain Pond. Harold and Barbra loved to camp and spent many weeks out of the year either at the lake or traveling. He enjoyed traveling across the United States with his wife, Barbra, and Benjamin. Occasionally, Tristan would get to tag along. They enjoyed going to Duncan to see Delyn and her kids, Bradley, Courtney and Caleb, joining in the celebrations of her birthdays and graduations. He loved deep-sea fishing with Daniel, couldn’t wait to visit his brother Ted and sister-in-law, Mary Ruth along with close friends Albert and Phyliss Rogers, in Colorado and numerous other adventures, going to Westcliffe with niece Vicki and her ex-husband Billy Bennett. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Richard & Joanie Scott in New Mexico. He always looked forward to camping with his brother Dwain, sister-in-law LaDonna, Richard and Anita Donley and their family. The Black Cousin Reunion was the highlight of his summer. He loved getting the opportunity to hang out with the numerous family members and catching up. He and Barbra loved to karaoke, usually choosing a Conway Twitty song. He was happy to have Brylinn around to get him a snack, drink or just simply harass and make her laugh. He loved to tease and have a good time. Harold often said “If I’m picking on you, you know I like you. If I don’t pick on you, I don’t like you.”  He enjoyed being surrounded by family – blood or not, didn’t matter to him – once family, always family. Harold was a good-hearted man who loved to help people, if someone needed something he would do what he could to help. When he owned his auto-mechanic shop he would take payment in the form of food from those who could not afford to make monetary payments.

In addition to his work, family, and travel, Harold had a few other hobbies.  He ‘enjoyed’ gardening; for many years planting an acre or more in potatoes, green beans, squash, tomatoes, corn, watermelon, cantaloupe and okra, the bounty providing food for his family through the winter.   Even in the later years when he said he wasn’t going to plant a garden, somehow, he ended up planting something.  For those lake days, he also ‘enjoyed’ the challenge of getting a ‘new’ boat to run.   He enjoyed some woodworking, making wahoo boards and ‘five in a row’ boards for friends and family. He loved playing games, cards and dominoes; a love passed to him by his parents. A hobby he passed down to John, Pat, Daniel, Justin, Tristan, and Jake was the love of hunting. A lot of times, however, he came home and said he wished he had a video camera instead of a gun because watching the animals was more fun than shooting them. Harold will be missed greatly by those who love him.

Memorial donations in Harold’s name can be made to the Oakwood Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 99, Oakwood OK, 73658, honoring his many years serving as a member of the department. The family would like to thank you in advance for any donations.
