Kelly Hobart Schenk


October 31, 1940 - May 13, 2021

Kelly Hobart Schenk was born October 31st, 1940, in Watonga, Oklahoma, to Lloyd and Beryl

Schenk, and passed away May 13th, 2021, at the age of 80. He was a resident of the Watonga

community for over 50 years, where he was an x-ray and lab technician at the Watonga

Municipal Hospital. After graduating from Hitchcock High School in May 1958, he attended

Oklahoma State University for three years and then completed his studies in radiological

technology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. On a sultry

August 4th, in 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Beatrice Winters, in the

Okeene Methodist Church. Kelly and Mary Bea continued living in Oklahoma City, both working

at the Oklahoma Children’s Hospital. In 1967 they relocated to Watonga, where he continued

his career at Watonga Hospital until retirement in 2002.

Kelly grew up farming and ranching on his family land near Hitchcock, where he spent countless

hours working ground, planting, and harvesting wheat. He also enjoyed owning cattle and

looked forward to calving season every spring. After retiring, he enjoyed the simple life and

getting to spend more hours on the tractor at the farm.

Known as “Papa” to his family, he loved traveling to ballgames all over the state and could tell

you where any gym is located in the five-county area. He also attended countless school

events with Mary Bea cheering on the grandkids. Married 56 years, he was a true testament of

love and devotion to his family.

Kelly is preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Beryl Schenk, and his wife Mary Bea

Schenk of Watonga, OK. He is survived by his brother Dr. Curtis Schenk and wife Liz of

Watonga, OK. His children: son Thad and Bobbi Schenk of Watonga, son Travis and Alicia

Schenk of Edmond, Oklahoma, daughter Maryl and Dr. Justin McCrary of Watonga.

Grandchildren Bradi Gibson and husband Ryan of Hitchcock, Oklahoma, Riley Schenk, Marin

McCrary and Wade McCrary of Watonga, Oklahoma, Abby Schenk, and Trevor Schenk,

Edmond, Oklahoma as well as numerous other relatives and friends.


Funeral Services for Kelly Hobart Schenk will be held on Monday, May 17th, 2021, 2:00 pm at

the First United Methodist Church in Watonga, Oklahoma, with Reverend Dianna Matli officiating.

Burial will follow in the Cottonwood Cemetery at Hitchcock, Oklahoma, with Wilkinson Mortuary

in charge of arrangements.
