Linda Louise Dungan

Linda Louise (Strader) Dungan was born on January 16, 1951 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Enid, OK to Eugene Allen and Margaret Louise (Church) Strader. She passed away peacefully at her home on November 12, 2021 at the age of 70. She attended Homestead School from 1st grade through 6th grade and graduated from Okeene High School in 1969. Linda received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Oklahoma State University in 1973 and then obtained her Master’s Degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Linda married her high school sweetheart, David Dungan, at the United Methodist Church in Okeene, OK on June 4, 1971, celebrating 50 years of marriage in June, 2021.

Linda resided in the Homestead/Okeene area for most of her life where she was a member of the Homestead Bible Church and Christian Women’s Fellowship. Linda began teaching for Okeene Public Schools in 1983 where she taught multiple grades and subjects including Special Education, Music Education, and 6th Grade. Linda was instrumental in establishing and served as the first Librarian for the Stanley T. Dixon Elementary School Library, which was the position she held when she retired in 1999.

Linda was an avid reader and enjoyed tending to her flower beds and multiple bird feeders. She loved to “peruse” through any shopping isle, travel with David, attend family reunions, and any events her children or grandchildren were participating in. She was a big supporter of Oklahoma State University and loved to watch all of their sporting events. Linda was a talented musician, where she sang in the church choir, and was proficient with multiple instruments including the french horn, trumpet, and guitar. She had a natural ability to sight read any song on the piano and organ, which she played for many years at the Homestead Bible Church and throughout the Okeene community. Her favorite activity, though, was any time spent with her grandchildren and family, who lovingly referred to her as “Nanny”. Linda’s unyielding faith, positivity, and sense of humor despite her medical challenges was an example to all who knew her.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Margaret, and her beloved dog, Pearl. She is survived by her husband, David Dungan of Okeene, OK; her daughters, Tina Frazer and husband, Ken, of Okeene, OK, and April Bennett of Oklahoma City, OK; her brothers, Terry Strader and wife, Sharon, of Okeene, OK, and Troy Strader of Eureka Springs, AR; her grandchildren, Nathan Rackley and wife, Mariah, of Okeene, OK, Nolan Rackley of Okeene, OK, Jami Cook and husband, Aubrey, of Okeene, OK, and Julia Bennett of Oklahoma City, OK; great grandchildren, Hazen and Ellie Rackley, Aspen Majors, and Wheatley Cook all of Okeene, OK; her mother and father-in-law, Leonard and Francis (Schroeder) Dungan of Enid, OK; her sister-in-law, Susan Reames of Enid, OK; her brother-in-law, Dale Dungan and wife, Kim, of Prior Lake, MN; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 11:00 at Homestead Bible Church with Jeremy Parker and Troy Strader officiating, and a graveside service will follow the service at Homestead Cemetery with Wilkinson Mortuary in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Homestead Bible Church or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
