WANDA JEAN BURNETT ROACH
AUGUST 9, 1929–SEPTEMBER 6, 2025

Wanda Jean Burnett Roach was brought into the world on August 9, 1929 in Liberty Township, Blaine County, OK and was welcomed back into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior on September 6, 2025 at her home in Thomas, OK. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Burnett and Bessie Stow Burnett; her brothers, Leon Burnett and Joe Burnett: her half sisters Ester Baxter and Willa Baxter; her half brother, Art Baxter; her daughter, Deborah Sue Roach Schenk; her son, Larry Don Roach and her great-grandchild, Micah Hinkle. She is survived by her sister, Cleo Burnett Lawver; her son-in-law, Dr. Curtis Schenk, his wife Liz and step-granddaughters Olivia and Sydney all of Watonga, OK; her daughter-in-law, Jane Roach Crawford and her husband, Leroy, of Piedmont, OK; six grandchildren: Julie Roach Moore and her husband, Will, of Oklahoma City, OK, Jarrod Roach and his wife, Magan, of Oklahoma City, OK, Justin Roach and his wife, Melissa, of Piedmont, OK, Derek Schenk and his wife, Tricia, of Frisco, TX, Ryan Schenk and his wife, Kelli, of Edmond, OK and Lori Schenk Hinkle and her husband, Jonathan, of Yukon, OK; and fifteen great-grandchildren: Abby, Alex, Benjamin, Braden, Chloe, Gavin, Halle, Josie, Kami, Levi, Lily, Lyndie, Makenna, Molly, and Walker. Wanda was a graduate of Oakwood High School, and on March 22, 1947, she married Don Roach. Don and Wanda were married for over 72 years until parted by Don’s passing in 2020. Wanda had a love for family that was second only to her love for Christ. She was passionate about supporting the family whom she unconditionally loved. Wanda was an avid Watonga Eagle and, along with Don, could be found at nearly every Watonga activity and event their children and grandchildren participated in and many they didn’t participate in. Beyond the Eagles, Don and Wanda were loyal fans and supporters of whatever school their family members were involved in. As their family grew larger with grandchildren and great-grandchildren in various locations beyond Watonga, Don and Wanda would continue to attend countless activities. Wanda was a gifted cook who was happiest when her large family was able to join together for a meal during holidays. Beyond her culinary gifts, she was blessed with the gift of encouragement. She had the unique ability to make you feel that you were the best at whatever you set out to do. But most importantly, Wanda loved the Lord. Her greatest joy was spending time in prayer for each of her family members, spending time in His word, and spending time serving Him and others via the ministry of the First Baptist Church of Watonga. Wanda served for decades teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and singing in the choir and at area nursing homes. It is our genuine belief that God has “shown his face” upon our family because of Wanda’s obedience and faithfulness. We have received His favor, and have “reaped a harvest that we did not sow.” Wanda gave the ultimate gift by providing for the spiritual health of our family. Because of her dedication to the Lord, He has shown favor upon her and her children. But then also upon our own children. Upon our children’s children, their own children, and their children again. We love you, Gram. Always. “Know therefore, that the Lord your God is God. He is the faithful God who keeps His covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes His unfailing love on those who love Him and obey His commands.” Deuteronomy 7:9.
Graveside services for Wanda will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, with Pastor Kern McMinn officiating, and Wilkinson Mortuary of Watonga handling the arrangements.
