Don grew up in Watonga and wanted to farm his whole life He owned a gas station; worked in the oil field a while; was a mechanic at NAPA; however, returned to his love of farming. One of his favorite past times was sitting on a hill at the farm, overlooking the herd, and especially the young calves playing King of the Hill.

He married Sandra (Beck) West, November 20, 1993, whom he met when out dancing one weekend in Oklahoma City at Cow Daddies. He always teased “one of them followed him home”. He enjoyed farming, Country Western dancing, and being out in his wood working shop creating something he designed himself.
