In Memory of Blaine Stone

Blaine Stone was born on December 5, 1938, in Provo, Utah, to Troy Stone and Sylvia Baker, and passed away February 16, 2024, at the age of 85.

Blaine grew up mostly in Buffalo, Oklahoma where he graduated in 1957. He attended and graduated from Panhandle State University on a football and baseball scholarship. He met Faye Venable at a rodeo dance, and they married on January 1, 1959. They have three children, SueAnn, Bret Blaine, and Monique Jan. Blaine coached and taught at Two Buttes, Colorado, Holton, KS, Lebanon, KS, Sharon Springs, KS, Lost Spring, KS, Billings, OK, Ringwood, OK, Wakita, OK, Elk City, OK, and Laverne, OK.

Blaine retired for health purposes in 1990; Faye continued to work as a Special ED para-professional, until shortly before her death in 2016. Blaine and Faye spent their final years in Watonga, Oklahoma. After Faye died, Blaine continued to go to sporting events and was active until 2022, when he moved to Edmond, Oklahoma to be near family. He lived in an Independent Retirement Community until October, when he moved to Thomas, Oklahoma, to live more dependently at Sandy Baldwins until his passing.

Blaine loved coaching and had many friends in the coaching community. He was honored to be inducted into the Oklahoma Track Coaches Hall of Fame, The Oklahoma 8-Man Football Hall of Fame, and the highlight of his career, The Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Blaine’s REAL love was his family. He was a devoted dad, grandad, and great grandad. He spent time attending the sporting events of his grandchildren and loved it. He leaves behind a legacy of educators. All three children are teachers, and all their spouses are also teachers. Five of Blaine’s grandchildren are teachers, and three generations of coaches. His son, Bret, was a coach and three of his four grandsons are currently coaches.

Blaine is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and wife, Faye.

He is survived by his children, SueAnn Powers and husband Bryan of Edmond, OK, Bret Stone and wife Belinda of Guthrie, OK, and Monique Blagowsky and husband Barry of Weatherford, OK; eight grandchildren, Andy Stone, Tyson Stone, Dara Powers Bremer, Toni Blagowsky Ray, Sabra Stone Kinney, Bryce Powers, Jimi Blagowsky, Brayden Stone, and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Sandy Baldwin and her team at Thomas for all the great care provided, as well as Dr. Schenk and Liz Schenk for their constant devotion to Blaine.

Graveside services for Blaine will be held Friday, February 23, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at Harmony Cemetery in Guthrie, Oklahoma, with Reverend Carl King officiating, and Wilkinson Mortuary handling the arrangements.
